While most college students are on budgets and staying at a cheap motel is tempting, a motel poses bigger safety issues than a larger hotel. Most motels are open and the door to your room is usually right next to cars parked in the lot. Never park in a space that has a number to match your room number; with that system, anyone can watch you leave your space and break into your room while you’re away; or worse, wait for you to return. Explain to the desk manager that for safety reasons you wish to park in either an unmarked space or one with a different number.
